Investigation Digital Citizenship

Objective : Today I will research my topic and find 10 facts/behaviors I would like to educate my peers about to prevent an inappropriate digital footprint in their future.

1. http://www.nisd.net/digitalcitizen/sec_digcit/etiquette_6_12.htm

Digital etiquette or netiquette as it is sometimes called, is a basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you. It's just as important to treat people with courtesy and respect online as it is in real life. When you instant message, chat, or email someone over the Internet, they can't see your face to tell if you're teasing them or saying something in jest. How do you practice good Netiquette? It's simple just treat others as you want to be treated with courtesy and respect. People know these rules but usually do not follow them when using the Internet. This includes hacking others computer, downloading illegally, plagiarism, and using bad language on the Internet.

  Discussion Questions
  1. How should people act online? Why is it different from their offline behaviors?
  2. Define Digital Etiquette in your own words. Use several of the key terms from the Key Terms worksheet in your definition.

2. http://www.nisd.net/digitalcitizen/sec_digcit/etiquette_6_12.htm

This web page will give you an introduction to Digital Etiquette. Schools from around the world have put in their ideas and research into this web page. At the beginning of the project students were introduced to a "ning" for students get to know other students in their groups and experience an online communication system. Students learned how use "flickr" to find photos that had a creative commons license. Many people around the world use chat rooms like "myspace" and "facebook" which is great to meet new people and communicate in a quick and easy way but some people don't use appropriate behavior online which leads to problems which can be dangerous.
Etiquette: What is it?
Etiquette is another world for being civilized and manners. A proper description of it would be rules governing socially acceptable behaviour. Having Etiquette means you are not rude or disrespectful. You have tact and are polite. Manners are important for good impression and will guarantee a more successful future. Etiquette also means to be proper as in clean and sophisticated. Etiquette is usually incorporated in a good education plan. In different cultures you can find different meanings of etiquette. This is what composes etiquette.
Etiquette: Who uses it?
Etiquette is used by people all over the world. In the 1800’s, Etiquette was obligatory. If you did not have propriety or manners then you were considered a disgrace and a street rat. Nowadays the formal teaching of proper etiquette is used mostly by wealthy and important people. But in some homes, you can also encounter it. Etiquette in some religions is a rule. That means a Muslim will have a different etiquette than a Buddhist. People who want to be successful in life also have a proper etiquette. That is why most people have a proper etiquette.

Etiquette: Why is it used?
When you use etiquette, it shows propriety.
On the internet, people use etiquette to be respectful and appropriate. Also when you are in a computer lab with others, if someone does not log off, instead of hacking them you can kindly log off for them. People have etiquette to maintain respect in society. Etiquette is normally used because people need to respect each other. When you have a good etiquette, people show you respect and feel more comfortable around you. It is used to be sophisticated and not rude and disrespectful. But sometimes the opposite of etiquette is used which is rudeness and a lack of tact. This is found especially in groups of teenagers who use it to look cool around friends. This is not right. Someone could get physically or emotionally hurt. This is why etiquette is used.

Etiquette: When is it used?
Etiquette mainly appears when someone has guests, meets with other people, or during meals. It is normally found in a social group. Friends use etiquette around each other to gain a better name. Etiquette is also used when greeting another person. The better you greet someone, the better they’ll think of you. Being proper around human beings when they are at your home or you’re hosting a party improves their opinion about you. Etiquette is also used during meals. Normally during meals with you family, people do not burp or make rude noises. They sit calmly and eat with the occasional polite conversation. This is when etiquette is used.

Etiquette: How is it shown?

Good etiquette is shown by having a proper education, manners and a sense of tact. Having a good education means you are intelligent and can tell right from wrong. Displaying good education gives people a better opinion about you. Also dressing properly and having cleanliness is a way of showing etiquette. Manners are also an excellent way of having etiquette. When you display manners, it means you respect the people around you. Also tact can do the same thing. This is how etiquette is shown.

EMAIL ETIQUETTE

  • Keep email as brief as possible. We all receive too many. Consider also removing excess people from follow up emails, if you started out with a huge CC list.
  • Upon sending an email, please allow up to 48 hours for a response. Yes, the web moves so very quickly, but not every email can be answered immediately.
  • Do NOT tweet, SMS, or otherwise send an immediate follow-up to say, “Did you get my email?” The answer is almost always yes. If it’s urgent, call.
  • If it’s urgent, use standard email, not Facebook email. We don’t all have super duper Facebook mobile apps.
  • Put the MOST IMPORTANT part at the top of the email, not the bottom. Again, we’re all doing a million things here. Make it easier.

BLOGGING ETIQUETTE

  • If you’re blogging about someone else, link to them. It only takes a moment, and it’s how the Web was made to work.
  • If you read a great blog post, and don’t have time to comment, consider passing it along simply, using StumbleUponDelicious, Google Reader Shared Items, orFriendfeed, to name a few.
  • If you have time to comment, try to do better than “Great post.” If you can, add a few thoughts of your own, or recommend something the author didn’t cover.
  • If you leave a comment, in the name section, don’t put all kinds of attempted search words. Most blogs’ comment sections don’t get picked up by Google, so it just comes off seeming like you’re trying to game search.
  • It’s okay to comment about a post you wrote, and to leave a link, if it’s relevant. Just leaving a link to some random post you did- not so much.

FACEBOOK ETIQUETTE

  • Please don’t send every little app you try. If you’re not aware that you’re doing it, you probably still are. Be sure to click “no” or “skip” or whatever lets you not invite me to yet another little green patch, zombie biting experience, or buy my friends experience.
  • Don’t write obnoxious links back to your stuff on people’s walls. Use them to be human.
  • Starting multi-user messages in Facebook is tricky, because then almost every reply becomes a “reply all.” Think about that.
  • Consider who you tag in which photos. This shows up on the user’s profile as well, and can sometimes become a bit awkward.
  • Sending endless promotional emails via your group gets old quick. Be mindful of this.

TWITTER ETIQUETTE

Note: use Twitter however you want. These are just some serving suggestions.
  • Use an avatar. It lets us know you’re possibly human.
  • If you’re using Twitter only as a link feed, consider marking your “bio” section with that, so people can decide.
  • I’m personally not fond of long @ conversations. Not sure your take, but to me, something over 3 @ messages back and forth might be best suited in a DM or into email.
  • If you don’t have much to say, it’s okay not to say it.
  • An @ message at the beginning of a post shows up in replies. Further in, it doesn’t.
  • It’s okay to promote yourself. Just consider promoting some other folks, too. Mix it up a bit.
  • You’re not obligated to friend everyone back. Some people use Twitter differently.
  • Removing someone as a Twitter friend doesn’t (necessarily) reflect on how you feel on them as a person. It’s okay.
  • Don’t let other people tell you how to use Twitter. (Get it?)

Selena Gomez ; Hero or Not A Hero

Selena Gomez, 19 was born on July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas. Gomez began her acting carer as young as 7 years in a hit TV show in 2002 called " Barney & Friend " and has worked her way up to more modern televised TV shows. Through all of Gomez's work she has become an inspiration and hero to the younger generation of kids. Gomez is a hero because she promotes education, helps with tornado relief, and helps out with saving endangered amphibians.

First, reason why Gomez should be considered a hero is due to her work on promoting education and good parenting skills in Chile. Gomez traveled to Chile in the summer with an organization called " UNICEF " she helped to promote the importance of education in a child's life and good parenting skills. According to,  Jessica McCaffety on a source on Starpulse " As the ambassador for the global children's charity UNICEF, Gomez recently traveled to South America for a kid's crusade to promote education and development in Valapariso, Chile. [...] During her visit to Chile, Gomez took part in a UNICEF supported program called " Programa Puente" which helps over 8,900 families better understand the importance of childhood education. "

Second, reason why Gomez should be considered a hero is her help in the tornado relief in Alabama. Gomez donated a relief concert to help with relief for the people in Alabama tornado. According to, escorazzicontnutar@2:45 pm on a source from Ecorazzi " Gomez is reaching out to help the tornado victims in Alamba again, this time donating to charity action [...] Four VIP tickets to one of her upcoming shows, completed with backstage passes and the chance to meet with Gomez in person. The bidding has already started and with continue on to July 21st, at which they will hopefully pass the 15,000 mark."

Third, reason why Gomez should be considered a hero is her help in showing awareness of endangered amphibians. Gomez worked together with the PSA organization and Kermit the frog to help with the endangerment of amphibians. Gomez worked to create commericals and make videos to show the importance of caring for these endangered animals. According to, Micheal Estries @ 10:22am for a source on Ecorazzi  " [Actress Selena Gomez ] has realized [ and organized] a new PSA with Kermit the frog calling attention to the plight of the world's amphibians. [ She states that ] " Unless we protect the environment half the world's amphibians will become extinct "

Selena Gomez should considered a hero, because she has worked to show awareness for many different types of organizations, and many places around the world. She has help to promote awareness on education and good parenting skills, the Alamba tornado relief, and endangered amphibians. Many people look up to Gomez's work in helping out in her community and environment. Therefore, Gomez is a hero.

Evaluate

1. How can my learning serve my community?
2. How can your future projects become better?
3. What have you learned about yourself and what you will continue to do or not do and why?
4. How do you feel about your final product? What would you rate yourself on the Rubric scale of 1-6 for each part of the Assessment Criterion?
5. What would you do differently in regards to your planning and execution of your plan?

What I have learned in this class to far can help me in community by being more knowledgeable, about my surrondings and how to slove a problem when it is nessisary. To be more knowledgable to be more exact and to know more about what I am trying to solve and the best way to solve it. For example let's say the community needs a way to affacuate the city in a case of serios and fatle emergencry. The problem is, that ' How can the city affacute the town in a fatle emergancry? Well, to be knowledgeable is to know that not everyone in the town has cars to get out of the city. To be knowledgeable is to know that not everyone lives next to the highway and to know that there could be traffic if everyone tries to travel the same way. So, you would plan to see which is faster and which is more accoutlable for people who live on either side of the city and have them all be save. So, you would create affacuaten roughts for all sides of the city, so they all are save and to have large bus on each side of the city in case of emergancry for the people without a car. This is how my learning can help serve my community.

In future projects, I will take more time to plan how I will get my project done on time and how I want it to be and how procide I want it to be. I will make it better by making it more unqie and differenent and putting my own personal touch on my project to make it more accoundable for people to want to see, and to learn more about the topic and I am trying to makwe it more approcable for people to llok at and understand and care more and learn more. To get the point I am trying to come across and the point I am trying to make. In future projects I plan to show that I gave more effort and take my time and not procrastinate as much as I did on this experiment, and ask my teacher more procide questions to get better answers to what I need to do.

I have learned that I am a big procrastinater and that I don't work at a good paise to get my project done at a timely matter. I get destracted easily and procrastinate. I plan to let that habit out and work and plan my work for a good timely manner for me, and work at the plan timely matter. I plan to inpromve on my work time and improve on my projects in total. I want to inprove on this to get a better grade, and make a better project. That I think fits the standers that I know I can achive to.

I rate myself on my final project, a honest 3. I do not believe I reached up to my standers that I could have achived and I do not believe that that was my best work. Although, I do believe that I worked up to good patinatal for my first project in this class, and I do believe that I was able to get my point across. Which I am proud of all and all. I know I need to improve and try to my full patental which I am look to do in my next project given by Mrs. Hinojosa let alone any teacher.

What I would do differently in regards to my planning and execution of my plan, is to follow my plan and make it more time consuming for me. I would put in the fact that I know I do get destracted and procrastinate and I will give myself a little extra time to rest and keep in mind when te project is due, and make a more accrate time scale according to my time limatation and methods.

Create

I will create a project that show how to use the design cycle, each step of the design cycle, and how much easier using the design cycle makes creating a product and solving a problem to not using the design cycle.
I plan to create a video using a web camera and my window media link.

I rate myself a 8 out of 10, due to the fact that I can already accomplish and finish my project and that I have worked on my plan I choose to use.

5–6 (95 / 100) You explained the problem, discussing its relevance.
You critically investigated the problem, evaluating information from a broad range of appropriate, acknowledged sources.
You described detailed methods for appropriate testing to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification.

Design Brief

10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
I am going to create a video showing how to use the design cycle and the importance of it, and how it very affective. We are making this to show the sixth grade students what the design cycle is and how important it's in the MYP course.
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
To use the best product and to make it understandable for sixth grade students as well as a good simplicy level and a way to understand the design cycle and to show what each step means.
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?Understandable for sixth grade students, showing all the steps in the design cycle in a creative yet simple way 13. How will you "test" your project? Which product is more acerate, which sorce is easier to control and use.

Window / Mac Media ..

Window Media & Mac Media are the same website for different computer system but consest of the same type of video function. The sites are used to create videos in a order that you create the theme the plot, even if the video shots were not taken in one continues shot. It's used to add effects, subtitles, captain, make sound effects and more. Like what you may see in videos on youtube that are not taken in one continues shot.
I am gonna grade this site by
Simplicity : how easy this site is to understand and sign in and use.
Fonts : the amount of fonts I found that I can insert.
Music : the music that you are able to insert and unable to insert.

WINDOW / MAC Media ;

Simplicity : I give the simplicity level of this website a 8 out of 10. The website is easy to use if you have a window computer or mac computer. But the simplicity is used on how well you know how to use you computer and how easy it is for you to connect with how to use the website. It's simple to understand but takes time to final create your final product and make it absoultey perfect. It takes time and patiance.

Fonts : I give the font level for this website a 9 out of 10. The website has many many fonts just like the window's documents you use on a daily use. It has almost if not more than at least 40 types of fonts, not including the fonts that you use on a daily use , like Arial Black. But many more creative fonts. The fonts are easy to insert for subtitles, captains, and more.

Music : I give the music level for this website a 7 out of 10. You can insert music effect like a large car noise, and bomb explosion, people cheering and more and you can also include music that you listen to on a daily use but you have to use a certain time to insert the video to a certain extent. And you have to insert it on your own at a certain time to meet the video before the next video shot time.

Day 2 : Investigation Reflection

Today research way I could create my video to solve the problem of how to help the sixth graders understand the design cycle.
I found that there any many video tools, I can use to create my video to solve my problem. I learned that you can add captain, add effects, make it different tone and different fonts to write captains and make it more unquie animato, windowmedia, captaintube. These are the websites I found the information to add captain and make a video. Right now, I have chosen to make a video with a plot to solve a problem while a group of kids solve the problem and another doesn't use the design cycle to solve the problem, and show how much harder it takes to work out the problem.
